Then, you become a franchisee, paying a fee to the company (known as the franchisor) for a certain number of years. This relationship gives you the right not only to use the franchisor’s name, but access to support and a proven system of operation.

If you’re looking to start a small business, opening a franchise is generally easier than going out on your own. While it still pays to be business savvy, the support and structure that a franchise provides means that you won’t be starting from scratch. You’ll also have a proven business model to guide you. These benefits are all included in the franchise cost, so you know what you’re getting right from the start.

The major advantage of being a franchise owner is that you can more easily compete with bigger businesses. Here are a few reasons why:

• Brand recognition: by buying into an established business, you won’t need to do the heavy lifting when it comes to finding your customers, as they’ll already be familiar with the brand name.

Before you own a franchise, it’s important to do your research. Here’s a few of our top tips:

• Ask questions: The franchisor is there to help you, so make sure you ask lots of questions. When you buy a franchise at Bakers Delight we’re always happy to answer any questions you may have.
• Talk to people who’ve been there: It’s also a good idea to ask current franchisees what owning the franchise is like. This could include questions like ‘why did you become a franchisee with this business?’, ‘is there anything you would do differently?’, or ‘how many hours a week do you work?’.
• Read everything: Read the documents given to you by the franchisor. This helps you understand the details, and know whether it’s right for you.

While we do have franchisees within our network who are qualified bakers, it’s not a requirement to franchise with us.

We welcome franchisees from all walks of life. From tradespeople to corporate workers, no matter your background, our 16 week training program is designed to provide you with the tools required to become a franchisee.

To be considered as a franchisee, it is a requirement that you hold Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship.

As with any business, a franchise is more likely to be profitable with commitment and solid research. If you go into the venture with all the information you need, it’s easier to understand what’s ahead of you.

Although we do not provide finance/loans, as an established franchise system, we are accredited with several banks across Australia. Generally, a bank may lend up to 60% of the funds; the purchaser is then required to fund the balance through cash or equity in assets.

Absolutely! Over 40% of our network are multi-site operators.
To become a multi-site operator, you’ll need to meet the selection criteria, undertake additional training and be approved by Bakers Delight.

Training is conducted in a bakery in your state, close to your residence. An experienced franchisee and a dedicated Training and Development Consultant will host you.

To ensure that you are fully capable of operating your bakery successfully, we require you to undertake our 16-week training program. You’ll need to show competency in all modules, including baking.

An experienced franchisee will mentor you and have the support of our training and development team to gain the relevant skills to run your business. Remember, you’re in business for yourself but not by yourself.
